THE SILK PAINTING PROCESS

The classic process of silk painting involves
first stretching the silk on a frame.
Then drawing the outlines of a design with a resist (a glue-like liquid) to control the flow of color.
Then you paint. The dye is applied and allowed to
dry.
After the dye is on, the silk is wrapped in paper
and placed in a steamer to fix the dye. The steaming process fixes the color.
Then the silk is unwrapped.
Resist and excess dye is washed out. The piece is
ironed.
Finally the silk is ready for use.
